Safeguarding

We require all organisations featured on Breeze Culture Network to demonstrate they have safeguarding and equality policies in place to ensure acceptable minimum standards for the quality and safety of the information that is shared on the website, much of which could be disseminated to children, young people and families.

All independent practitioners show us they have a recent CRB/DBS registration, insurance and references - this means if you are approaching an independent practitioner via the Directory you can be assured they have worked with children and young people before, though we do recommend you always carry out your own checks. See below.

Delivering arts or cultural activity?

Arts/Cultural/Voluntary Organisations are required to complete a form and submit their safeguarding and equality policies before they are activated on the site. Where these policies are not of an acceptable standard we will request that they are revised before we grant membership. Download the equality and safeguarding forms for organisations here. (word document)

Arts/Cultural Independent Practitioners are required to provide details of their last enhanced CRB check (within the past two years) or a current DBS registration, contact details of two referees relating to education and community work carried out within the past two years that may be taken up by prospective employers, Public Liability Insurance certificate number and name of insurer - before their account is activated on the site. Delivering sport or dance activity in Leeds?

Sports Coaching/Development Organisations or Independent Practitioners and Community Sports Clubs (listed in Leeds only) are required to complete an application relating to code of conduct, equality and safeguarding and, if relevant, membership of a governing body and charter marks.

Download sports organisations, practitioners and community sports clubs safeguarding form here.

Sport organisations may find our risk assessment template (word, 102KB) helpful, and there is more information on the Health and Safety Executive website.

Self Assessment Audit Toolkit

Leeds Safeboarding Children Board supply a self assessment audit tool to help organisations meet safeguarding standards, it's a useful exercise in checking how you are doing. Download a copy of the Toolkit here.

Disclaimer

Organisations working with independent practitioners should be aware that a CRB/DBS check provided to Breeze Culture Network to activate their account, is not a substitute for your organisation’s own checks, safeguards or responsible practice.

The DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) is the new name for CRB checks. More information can be found here.

Apart from spot checks, Breeze Culture Network does not follow-up previous CRB/DBS information provided at registratio by independent practitioners. It is therefore the responsibility of the organisation employing an artist/partner organisation to ensure that the relevant CRB/DBS/safeguarding/equality/reference documentation is satisfactory and in place at the time the work is delivered.

Anyone working with an independent practitioner or organisation listed on Breeze Culture Network must be satisfied through their own checks that the independent practitioner or organisation is appropriate for working with children or young people.

Assess your existing Safeguarding Children Policies with this self assessment toolkit.
